Next Friday, October 19th, is a Pro-D day. Although we won't have classes in session, students in Grades 11 and 12 are invited to attend to hear Dr. David Burns, university professor at Kwantlen University who will be speaking on Transforming Education in BC: Supporting and Preparing Learners for the Future. The afternoon session starts at 1 pm until 2:30 here at the LVR Gym.
Can all students involved in Cadets please meet Mrs. Pender-Mitchell in the multipurpose room at lunch today to discuss the upcoming Remembrance Day Assembly.
Senior Boys Basketball will be having an Open Gym next Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30 pm.
All grade 12 students interested in applying to the prestigious LORAN scholarship, please go to the LORAN website to determine qualification. If you are interested in being sponsored by the school please send an email to Mrs. Malloff and or Mr. Machado. All candidates will need to show the school their completed application by October 16th for sponsorship and October 23rd direct pool.
Rotary Youth exchange applications for short and long term are due in the office by today. Interviews will take place next Wednesday in the multi-purpose room at 7pm.
Next week BC university and colleges will be coming to LVR, specifically on the evening of Tuesday October 16th in the LVR gym from 7-8:30 pm. Interested grade 10, 11 and 12 students can come out and meet liaison and admission officers from 10 to 12 different BC institutions. Bring your parents or other significant people and find out about programs, admissions, accommodations, scholarships etc.
Mini-RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership) camp will be taking place again this November 9-11. To find out more about this transforming leadership experience for youth, drop by the LVR office to pick up a form. Applications due Friday October 19th online.

1) All parents are welcome to a district wide Parent Night Out with visiting guest speaker, Dr David Burns, on Thurs Oct 18th at 18:30, at Mt Sentinel Secondary School. David is the keynote speaker at the SD8 Provincial Professional Development Day on the following day, which will be focused on K-16 BC New Curriculum and the Changing Learner. The topic for the parent night is "Transforming Education in BC: Supporting and preparing learners for the future" He speaks about transformative learning environments that reflect the real world, 21st century skills kids need, and how to best prepare learners' transitions to post secondary, trades,or work. ( see attached poster)
2) The next LVR PAC meeting and the LVR PAC AGM is now Mon Oct 22nd at 7pm. Any parents interested in being in one of the exec. roles, as chair, vice chair, secretary or treasurer, or sharing a role (ie: co-secretary, or co-chair) please contact LVR PAC through email@example.com. Christine Perkins , the SD8 superintendent, will join us to speak about the new SD8 Strategic Plan, the SD8 3 year professional development plan for high school teachers, and Deeper Learning Projects. Tamara Malloff, is regularly at PAC meetings to give a principal's report and participate in the collaborative conversations. All parents are welcome at LVR PAC Meetings.
