Annually, November 16, marks a very significant day for all Métis people. Today is the day when all Métis people acknowledge Louis Riel, the iconic Métis leader. Riel fought for basic human rights for Métis and First nations. Today is a commemoration of the anniversary of Riel's execution in 1885. It's because of his sacrifice and dedication that the Métis people in Canada can today be "Proud to be Métis."
